Idol Thoughts: Top 24 Predictions

Now that we’ve seen the heroes and the zeroes, it’s time for some predictions.   For both the men and women, I’ll divide them into groups of four:  one group that’s moved to the front, one group that is probably safe but should fear coming weeks, and one group that should bring their belongings to Tribal [...]

Idol Thoughts: Another So-So Night

Tonight the guys had their turn on Idol, and the performances were largely more interesting than last night’s, but I certainly wouldn’t describe them as better.  It was one of those nights when I really wondered how much different the acoustics are in the auditorium than on television, because the judges liked performances I thought [...]

Idol Thoughts: The Year of the Women? Not So Much

The real season of American Idol started tonight with the live performances of the top 12 women.  This week (and for each of the next two), we get one night of female performances, one night of male performances, and a results show where two of each are kicked to the curb.  Simon apparently told the [...]

LOST: Is There Any Locke In There?

Last night’s episode heavily featured Locke and not-Locke, with the island storyline focusing on a promise by not-Locke to Sawyer to provide answers, and the ensuing road trip.  In true LOST style, the answers weren’t nearly as satisfying as Sawyer had hoped, leading to… yup, more questions.

Book Review: The Quiet War

Paul McAuley’s The Quiet War debuted in the UK in 2008 before getting a well-deserved release a few months back in the US by Lou Anders and Pyr Books.  For those who don’t know, Pyr and Anders have done a great job of bringing high-quality international SF/F authors to the US market, including Joe Abercrombie, [...]

Worth It?

Best Buy is selling the Season 1 DVD set of Fringe for 9.99, or just under one cent per minute.  Clearly the price is right, but is it worth 1028 minutes of my time?  Are there any Fringe watchers out there?

LOST: Looking Behind the Curtain

I’ve spent a few days thinking about this week’s LOST episode.  While the season premiere sent my mind racing in a number of directions at once, the second episode left me a bit… bored.  Rather than guessing at the story to come, it got me thinking about the structure of LOST as a show.

Vancouver 2010 Medals, Recycled

Saturday morning surfing turns up some interesting stuff now and then, today being no exception.  They’re using the gold, silver and bronze recovered from recycled pc boards, cellphones and other electronics in the medals for the winter olympics.  The design is pretty cool as well.  Follow the link for a video interview:

Medal Gear Solid

LOST: "It worked."

Last night’s brilliant season opener of LOST was another game changer.

WARNING: SPOILERS ABOUND.

Music of the Week: DJ Earworm

You might’ve read about DJ Earworm’s amazing mashup United State of Pop, combining all 25 of the 2009 Billboard Hits, but since its already viral and we’ve moved on, I want you to take a second look at this guy and check out his equally awesome mashup of Annie Lennox songs.  I cant imagine the [...]
